SALOME / Peachlyfe / Sister Zo / DJ Gigola / Meilgaarden / OZA
Salome returns to BASEMENT for her first set of the year. A key resident of Herrensauna, Salome matches the expansive, edgy technoid sounds of her crew with a hard, lean and crushing interpretation of electro. Indeed, she told RA “When I first heard electro, I had an epiphany.” But Salome doesn’t paint herself into a corner. The Georgian-born, Berlin-based artist weaves a complex tapestry that cannot be pigeonholed. Peachlyfe contorts club sounds into fascinatingly twisted shapes. The Copenhagen artist is at the forefront of a generation that’s reinterpreting trance, psy, prog and more through a lens of post-deconstructed club. Tracks like “Return of the Wasp Waist / Calling All My Hoes” are prime examples of truly alien music. In their own words, they make tracks “that shouldn’t make sense, but do, pulling chaos into something weirdly anthemic.” Sister Zo’s unique sound wraps the propulsion and linear clarity of techno around the twisted chassis of modern bass music. Or perhaps it’s the other way around. Her releases on Martyn’s 3024 and elsewhere breathe with spacious ease while pummeling you with some of the heaviest low end on the books today.
