Schwefelgelb / RUIZ OSC1 / KXAH / The Carry Nation / Jorkes / Sevyn
Rave crusaders Schwefelgelb are back to preach the gospel. The German duo has been active for nearly two decades, but it was with 2017’s “Es Zieht Mich” that they evolved into their current form. Embracing glass-sharp synths and throbbing, bassline-driven grooves, the pair fused their love of industrial and electroclash with a vision of techno as sleek, rugged, and confrontational. The song was a bonafide hit and has become a modern classic. Since then, Schwefelgelb have confirmed their status as one of the best acts in techno today. Their ruthlessly effective dancefloor beaters never spare a flourish of color, always finding a tweak to the formula. RUIZ OSC1’s unique “folkloric groove techno” offers a fascinating counterpoint. The Colombian-born artist pulls the genre far away from its main, Euro-centric lane, weaving in South American motifs and free-flowing percussive cross-rhythms. Last year saw the release of her “Techsturbation” EP on Héctor Oaks’ KOAZ label. The EP goes all-in on full throttle rave, wasting no time in hitting the dancefloor where it hurts. KXAH returns to the room. Self-identified as “married to the bassline,” KXAH’s pared back, grooving sound has been making major waves. She has become an unmissable presence in NYC.
