Disturbing The Peace: An Open Mic & Reading with Poets Out Loud
A poetry reading and open mic series to uplift marginalized voices and fundraise for a better world, raising funds for DBNY. Join the Hive Mind Books and Poets Out Loud community for Disturbing the Peace, a poetry reading and open mic series to uplift marginalized voices and fundraise for a better world. This month, we’re raising funds for Demilitarize the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Disturbing the Peace borrows its name from James Baldwin’s essay “The Creative Process” in which he calls artists “the incorrigible disturber(s) of the peace.” We see poetry as essential to disrupting the status quo, and we want you to disrupt it with us. Disturbing the Peace is free to attend, but we suggest a minimum $10 donation, with all funds going to Demilitarize the Brooklyn Navy Yard. NOTAFLOF. Sign up opens at 6:30, reading begins at 7. Come share your poetry and build community! Hive Mind Books is a queer and trans bookstore and coffee shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
