We Are Collective presents... Arts of Lore a queer, community based, performing arts & education festival September 5th from 12:00p - 5:00p at Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble Sliding Scale Tickets for Each Workshop Description of Arts of Lore Arts of Lore is a community arts festival that will be celebrating the lore of 8 individual artists through performance as well as 4 teaching artists hosting workshops. These artists are presenting works that relate to their personal lore, their community stories, and ancestral histories. Arts of Lore is meant to uplift queer folks & those around them by showcasing, tending to, and celebrating our varied experiences. Become part of our lore by attending Arts of Lore! Workshop Descriptions 12:00pm - 1:00pm | Intro to Irish: Jigs, Jumps, & Sets | Lani Anderson In this beginner-friendly class, we’ll start with a brief introduction to the history and origins of Irish dance. From there, you’ll learn foundational Irish dance technique, including basic jig steps, rhythms, and jumps, before putting everything together in a fun, easy to follow two hand partner dance. No prior dance experience is necessary! This workshop is Open Level 1:15pm - 2:15pm | Soft Rhythms | Tristen Sanborn Through technique, improvisation, and choreography, participants will dive into a class of rhythmic conversations while exploring their own voice through tap dance. This workshop is Intermediate / Advanced Limited Spots of 3 due to Tap Boards 2:30pm - 3:30pm | Elements & the Self | Ash Williams First, a presentation on the philosophies of the elements on our personalities and actions. Using Avatar, The Last Airbender as the main source. Then, a guided improvisation/freestyle to enhance your understanding of your own affinities through your body. Come find out why you're not just 1 element, but all of them! This workshop is Open Level 3:45pm - 5:00pm | Open Creative Space | Nik Graves | FREE This is a free creative space. Want to come craft? Slay! Want to come dance on the marley? Slay! Want to come read a book? Slay!!! This is meant to be an open communal space on our last day of the festival. Bring friends, bring creativity, bring tenderness, & let's explore our lore! This workshop is Open Level Accommodations & Limitations: Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble has two flights of stairs to access the auditorium space. If you are not able to attend the show due to accessibility, we are deeply sorry! Masks are encouraged but not mandatory. We Are Collective is proudly in residency at Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble. We are grateful for this relationship and wish to maintain it! We mean this with the utmost sincerity, if you are caught smoking or vaping in the building, you will be removed without refund.
