Craft zines, write poems, reclaim the page! A workshop series aimed at queer youth (ages 13-17) in the Tempe-Mesa-Phoenix area. Flipping the Page is a creative workshop series made for queer youth. Each workshop alternates between teaching a new zine form or poetry form, with a focus on queer self-expression, history, and community. Entry is free, and materials are provided. Limited to 10-12 participants. See below for a schedule of events! For participants, look out for further workshops in the future, including an opportinuty in November to help put your zines into a collection! 9/12: One-Page Zines. Learn to make two different forms of zines from a single sheet of paper, along with a brief history of zining as it relates to queer history. Participants will have the chance to customize and construct their own zines in a workshop-style setting. 9/19: Collage, Blackout, and Erasure Poems. Read and workshop poems that flip the usual scripts on queerness. Cut, splice, black out, and erase words to write poems in your own voice! Notes: This event encourages a welcoming and respectful environment. Therefore, racism, sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, and other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated. Though materials are provided, participants are welcome to bring their own materials. However, please note that each individual is responsible for their own materials. This event is open to any constructive feedback regarding operations, inclusivity, sensitivity, materials, and future suggestions.
