Join us for a conversation between Los Angeles Gay Liberation Front (GLF) Activist Carolyn Weathers and Sara Angevine, to discuss Weathers’ impact on LA Queer History. Weathers, in her work with GLF, led the 1970 “Biltmore Invasion” where GLF activists interrupted a program on electroshock therapy as a cure for homosexuality at the American Psychiatric Association’s convention at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. This direct action was a vital step in the eventual declassification of homosexuality as a mental illness. Political Science Professor Sara Angevine will discuss that historic moment of political courage with Weathers and its connection to our current anti-LGBTQ climate.
