Disco is the beating heart beneath nearly every form of electronic dance music that followed it. Its emphasis on the extended mix, the DJ as storyteller, and the dancefloor as a space of communal liberation laid the foundation for house, techno, and everything in between. Born in the underground clubs and loft parties of 1970s New York, it was music made by and for Black, Latino and queer communities who found sanctuary its four-to-the-floor pulse. Chicago treasure Mark Grusane, former co-owner of the legendary Mr. Peabody Records and a dancefloor devotee since the early '80s, brings an encyclopedic passion and emotional narrative fostered by decades of digging. Naming Mark Grusane as a mentor, Chicago-based DJ, collector and Work Ethic party organizer Inés's sound has been shaped by the city's deepest underground traditions.
